The history of the 3-star hotel

A charming historic residence

Construction of the Villa des Fées, now the Résidence de Rohan, was completed at the end of the 19th century. More precisely, in 1887, the date engraved on the pediment of this magnificent residence, nestled in lush greenery overlooking Nauzan Beach.

THE BEGINNINGS

The man behind the property was César-Augustin de La Brousse, Marquis de Verteillac, who later bequeathed the villa to his daughter, Hermine-Augustine de La Brousse de Verteillac. Through her marriage to Alain de Rohan-Chabot, Prince of Léon, she became Princess of Léon and later Duchess of Rohan following the death of her father-in-law. Thus began the story of this emblematic residence on the Royan coast.

A new beginning

The Seguin-Ouvrard family purchased the hotel in 1980

The villa's true history remains uncertain to this day. According to some accounts, it was a hunting lodge built for the leisure of the Marquis de Verteillac. Others believe it was a preliminary version of the future château the Marquis intended to build, but which was never completed. Guy Binot, in La Saga des Bains de Mer (Bonne Anse Editions), puts forward another theory: the château was indeed built, but “the building, too close to the sea, was destroyed by its assaults, and the outbuildings became the Résidence de Rohan...”.

In 1925, Léopold Pouvreau took over the estate and divided it into several plots, the main outlines of which can still be seen today. In 1931, the Villa des Fées became a hotel and was occupied by German forces during the war. The bombing raids of April 1945 left the residence unscathed.

The Seguin-Ouvrard family purchased the hotel in 1980. Three years of renovation were needed to transform it into a wonderful three-star hotel. Over the years, the Résidence de Rohan has continued to flourish and grow more beautiful, always respecting the character of the property and the spirit of its original period.

Now a charming hotel, it offers a relaxed, family atmosphere that invites guests to unwind. It is also a place steeped in history, sure to delight those who appreciate tranquillity and beautiful historic stonework.
